Mr and Mrs Andrews

Gainsborough painted this portrait around 1750. It was still in the Andrews family until 1960 and was relatively unknown until then.

The Spanish poet, Antonio Machado, fled from Franco’s forces in January, 1939, and found refuge just over the border in Collioure in France.

When worry and trouble come unasked, just go your way. They’ll tire and leave you for a day.
